DJG Around the World
Dae Jang Geum to be shown in Russia
MBC (Munwha Broadcasting Corporation) announced on the 9th February that Dae Jang Geum will be dubbed into Russian and shown daily at 8pm on Russia's DVTRK from March 2007.

DVTRK commented, "The success story of a rising female will appeal to the sentiment of Russians. As the eastern region also holds an Asian sentiment, we hope the area can serve as a gateway for Korean culture to spread throughout Russia."

DJG is also a kind of revenge story. However, Jang Geum's revenge story is inspiring and eminent compared to other revenge stories.

When she had a chance to clear out the enemies, she stopped and actually asked the enemies reflect their guiltiness and confess their own crimes to meet an honorable ending. However, the enemies, due to their own evil mind, refused that and separated and fought by themselves using the same conspiracy way which they used to kill Jang Geum's mother and mentor. Eventually they destroied by themselves.

It was a perfect revenge which never been experienced from other shows, and gave a really great catharsis to the viewers.

Russia has a long history of dyansty. So, Russian dubbing might be OK for Russians' understanding the DJG drama.

If it is dubbed in English in the USA, it may sound silly to Americans. Because they don't have history of dynasty. Most Americans may not understand Asian dynasty drama.

However, if it is dubbed in the UK using ancient dynasty tone English, probably, the British would fully understand the DJG drama. Because, UK has a long history of dyansty until now.

Actually, in most European countries, if they are a little bit open minded, I think, they would air such a touching drama DJG.

If BBC air DJG with English subtitls and make UK version of DJG DVD with them, then many Koreans would buy them to study standard English.
I am also very curious how Jang Geum's and lady Han's words would be translated by BBC.
