Dae Jang Geum Trailer
This trailer is a pre-release promotion for a new project I am working on, a 'Making of Dae Jang Geum' documentary.
The documentary, to be presented in three short episodes, will chronicle the making of this epic drama. More details will follow as the project progresses. Watch this space!

The 3rd airing of Dae Jang Geum by NHK in Japan was finished on Nov 18th with a great success. And NHK decided 4th airing with Korean original sound with Japanese subtitle, while previous 3 airing was done with Japanese dubbing. Although, her dubbing was excellent because it was performed by a very famous Japanese dubbing actress, many Japanese liked to hear Lee Young-Ae's original voice.
I think the subject of Dae Jang Geum is love.
Love for daughter, love for parents, love for teacher, love for pupil, love for patients, love for friend, love for spouse, love for life, ...
However, I can't remember any of them say the word "love".
It is an unbelievable drama expressing love without using the word love. And there is no sex scene and no kiss scene.
hmm...i really agree with the last anonymous comment about love. its true, LYA refused the kissing scene (yes) and so the most intimate scene between any of them was a hug. yet their love ran so much deeper than the people in other movies who are constanly sleeping with other people. the only time i remember the word "love" in the entire drama is when the king and sir min were fighting over Jang Geum or when a person was talking about two other people's love.
King: "I heard that you love Min. Is it true?"
JG: "......, Yes, ... your majesty"
King: "I am the king of this country. Do you know what your answer can cause?"
JG: "......, yes, ... your majesty"
King: "You really don't want to become a concubine!"
...... JG visited Min's office
JG: (with tears) "King asked me whether I love you. And I answered Yes without deep consideration. I am really afraid you will have serious problem."
Min: "Please don't worry. I am much prefer that you said Yes to king. I am really happy. Don't worry about me"
King was listening their conversation outside door. And ordered them to attend a stroll the next morning.
...... the next moring
King, JG, Min, and many people were walking in the palace.
King: JG, I heard that once you saved Min's life.
JG: Yes, your majesty.
King: I heard that you didn't know the faces each other at that time. Then how did you know that the person you saved was Min?
JG: I dropped a 3-part accessory made by my father during treatment. Min preserved it until we met, and became to know it was mine.
King: Father's 3-part accessory? Would you show it to me?
JG: ...... I don't have it now.
King: Why? Didn't he return it?
JG: Yes, but. I gave it back.
King: ......
King: I was a good archer when I was young. I want to compete archery with Min. Prepare archery.
King: Min, we will shoot 5 arrows each. If I lose I would give you my bow. What would you give me if you lose?
Min: Your majesty, the bow is the only one in our country. It's so precious that I don't have anything comparable to it.
King: You have one.
Min: I can't figure out your majesty.
King: JG's 3-part accessory.
Min: ......
King and Min started shooting. Both of them made 4 bull's eyes, and one shooting remained each. King's 5th arrow missed bull's eye. Min is pulling the bow for the 5th shooting.
King: I love JG. Do you too?
Min hesitate a moment and shoot making bull's eye.
Min: Yes, your majesty.
King load an arrow in a bow and points Min's face. Min, JG and everybody suprises. However, king shoot the arrow to a crow in the sky. King looks Min angrily and then through the bow in front of Min.
...... the next day, king and JG meet in a room.
King: "I lost my first wife the day when I became a king, due to a political reason. ... I had new queen and concubines. However, they are all the representives of each political power. I knew that a king can not have a real love. Thus, I gave up.
However, I became to love you without notice. It's a long lost emotion. But, I wouldn't make you my concubine. Because, I don't want to against your wish.
But, I want you to be with me as my dedicated physician. That is my order as a king and also my request as a man.
